In honour of the Chinese New Year we decided to have a few friends around for a Chinese dinner. Offering a menu entirely based on Ching’s recipes either from my extensive Delicious magazine back catalogue or my Xmas pressie from the same author 🙂  Our guests ate Pork and Prawn Wonton soup, Red Beer Stew,  Carrots and Sweet Potatoes in a cumin,  fennel, garlic and coriander marinade.  Followed by Pineapple skewers marinades in sugar,  cinnamon,  star anise,  lime and orange.  These were grilled and served with creme fraiche.

Jasmine tea and fortune cookies wrapped up an awesome meal.

The wontons were fun to make,  wrapping the parcel’s was a bit of a faff but worth it for the light dumplings.  The main was super simple, beef was boiled in a soy broth (with cinnamon, star anise,  szechuan peppers,  chilli and brown sugar).  Interestingly the dish is finished with Lapsong Souchoung tea bags.  They give it a little smokiness.

A lovely way to see in the year of the Rabbit,  Mr M certainly thought so giving it 9.5 out of 10. Happy New Year!
